Keep drywall in stable, manageable stacks and contain the small pieces before the hauling crew arrives. The best setup protects finished surfaces, leaves a clear route to the truck, and keeps suspect material out of the ordinary debris pile.
Start with the material history
Before handling removed wallboard, confirm whether the renovation required asbestos or lead review. Washington L&I says owners and contractors must identify asbestos before renovation, repair, or demolition work. If the material is suspect or untested, stop moving it and use the appropriate inspection process.
Drywall pickup checklist
- Keep large pieces flat or supported so they cannot fall.
- Bag small fragments without overfilling the bags.
- Keep the pile dry and away from active walkways.
- Protect floors, corners, and door thresholds along the loading route.
- Measure narrow doors, stairs, and gates.
- Tell the hauler whether the drywall is painted, wet, or mixed with insulation.
Why separation helps
King County treats new gypsum scrap differently from painted drywall removed during a remodel. A clean, separated load is easier to evaluate and route than a mixed pile containing wood, chemicals, insulation, and general trash.
If the pile is ready and the material is within the confirmed scope, call to discuss drywall and sheetrock removal and the access details that affect the estimate.
